Instrument

Viola

When did you start playing your instrument?

I started on violin when I was in third grade and switched to viola in middle school. It stuck.

What do you do when you’re not playing in the LSO?

I am a marketing consultant.

When, or how, did you come to join the orchestra?

I joined LSO in 2013.  I reconnected with a college buddy, Larry “the Bass” Jones, and he gave me the kick-in-the-pants I needed to come out and sit in the section for a rehearsal. I ended up staying!

Do you play in any other musical groups?

I play with the Orchestra Society of Philadelphia on Friday nights. This reading orchestra is meant for musicians looking to get exposure to a lot of the orchestra repertoire and great conductors and is unique in that 1. it doesn’t have an audience and 2. it is “one-and-done” meaning we read through the piece once and then move on!

Do you come from a musical family?

Yes, I guess so, but I never really thought about it, since it was always sort of present. My family has produced a crazy mix of musicians ranging stylistically from jazz to polka, rock to classical, on instruments ranging from guitar and trumpet to accordion and drums.

Does the instrument you play on have a story?

I hate to think what it would say about me.

Are you originally from Lansdowne/Philadelphia?

Yes, born in Philly, grew up in the burbs, have been living in Center City since the 80’s.

Who is your favorite superhero?

I am a longtime fan of Batman.
